How CS2 Skin Price Manipulation Works
CS2 skin prices on the Steam Community Market are highly susceptible to manipulation — particularly by coordinated groups of traders, often based in China, who bulk-buy specific skins to artificially inflate prices before selling at a premium. These patterns are called pump and dump schemes.
Our anomaly detector watches for sudden price spikes (pumps) by comparing current prices against 24-hour and 7-day rolling averages, cross-referenced with Buff163 (the Chinese CS2 skin marketplace). A large divergence between Steam prices and Buff163 prices is a key signal of an artificial pump.
