Five teams have punched their Cologne playoff tickets including the Falcons superteam, while NaVi and G2 both fell to a Day 5 survival match.

Five teams are locked in. Three spots remain. IEM Cologne Major 2026's Stage 3 — five days of best-of-threes at the Palladium, no shortcuts, no best-of-ones — closes out today with its highest-stakes matches still to come.

What Stage 3 produced before today was already more than most Majors deliver in full: a superteam that stumbled and clawed back to qualify in overtime, two powerhouses who went 3-0 without dropping a series, and both NaVi and G2 ending up in the exact place they least wanted to be.

Falcons Nearly Blew It. Then m0NESY Happened.

BetBoom opened Stage 3 by beating Team Falcons 2-0 in Round 2. Here were NiKo, m0NESY, karrigan, TeSeS, and kyousuke — one of the most expensive and hyped lineups CS2 has ever seen — sitting at 1-1, one more loss from an early exit at a $1.25M Major.

They didn't lose again.

Round 3 came with a three-map grind against G2. Round 4 was Monte. Round 5 — the decisive match that separated qualifiers from the final-day survival bracket — handed Falcons a NaVi squad fighting for their tournament life.

Dust2 was one-sided from the first gun: Falcons ran it 13-3 and made NaVi look slower than they had all tournament. NaVi leveled the series with a 13-7 Mirage win. Then Anubis happened. Forty-six rounds, double overtime, neither team finding a clear edge until Falcons closed it 19-16 and put the series away. m0NESY posted 57 kills and a 1.33 rating across the three maps. Whatever questions Round 2 planted about this roster, Anubis answered them.

There was also the moment the broadcast kept returning to: when Falcons had played G2 back in Round 1, the cameras caught NiKo exchanging handshakes with his cousin Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač on the Palladium stage. A year ago they were both the face of G2 Esports. Now NiKo plays for the team that beat G2 in the very first round of Stage 3, m0NESY left with him, and huNter- is left leading a rebuilt G2 squad into a must-win final day match.

Spirit and FURIA Didn't Break a Sweat

Team Spirit went 3-0 through Stage 3 the same way they've been winning for the past eighteen months — clinically, without spectacle, without needing to show everything. They dropped the fewest rounds in the stage and consistently found a way to close maps when they got tight. They didn't leave a lot of highlight material because they didn't need to.

FURIA matched them exactly. The Brazilian side swept every series in Stage 3, capping it with a 13-6, 13-6 dismantling of BetBoom — the same BetBoom that had beaten Falcons 2-0 in Round 2. After the series, yuurih told reporters the Major had felt "more relaxed than the other Majors." When the best team in Brazil is calm in a $1.25M bracket, every other team in the draw needs to take that seriously.

Aurora and Vitality rounded out the 3-1 qualifiers. Aurora's run was methodical and harder to score against than their seeding suggested. Vitality's path was anything but clean.

9z Rattled Vitality and Almost Took Them Out Early

The Argentine side came into Round 2 at 1-0 and left it at 2-0. They beat Vitality 2-1 in a series that spent most of its runtime feeling like it shouldn't be happening — took Mirage 13-9, conceded Inferno 4-13, then closed out Dust2 13-11 on the strength of meyern's 1.11 rating. Vitality was visibly rattled.

The French side recovered: they beat MOUZ in Round 3, then outlasted BetBoom in Round 4 to go 3-1 and advance. But they've looked mortal in stretches that the world's top-five teams aren't supposed to look mortal, and the bracket will remember it.

Three Matches. Three Spots. The Final Day.

NAVI vs G2

This is the Day 5 match that rewrites someone's Major narrative. NaVi went 2-0 after beating Legacy and MongolZ in their first two rounds, then lost to Spirit and fell to Falcons in that 19-16 Anubis thriller, landing at 2-2. G2 opened Stage 3 by losing to Falcons in Round 1 — NiKo's old team handing huNter-'s rebuilt squad an early hole to climb out of — then ground through the bracket with a survival sweep of Legacy in Round 4 to reach today.

One of them advances to the LANXESS Arena. The other boards a flight home. With the NiKo-huNter- cousin subplot already written across the earlier Falcons match, the story around this game carries more weight than a typical 2-2 survival series.

MongolZ vs 9z

MongolZ had been building momentum through Stage 3 before NaVi stopped them in Round 3. 9z shocked Vitality, then ran out of road and ended up here. South American CS2 has been on an upswing across the entire tournament, and a 9z win today would be the statement that run deserves. MongolZ have been this deep at Majors before and know exactly how this match feels.

BetBoom vs FUT

BetBoom opened Stage 3 with one of its best results — beating Falcons 2-0 in Round 2 looked like the beginning of something. Since then: losses to FURIA, then Vitality. FUT has been the quiet team in the 2-2 pool, surviving without drawing much attention. One of them closes out a story here, and the other joins the list of teams that made Cologne interesting without making the playoffs.

The first matches start this afternoon at the Palladium. By tonight, all eight playoff teams are set and the LANXESS Arena bracket is finalized.
