The Esports World Cup was supposed to be in Saudi Arabia. It isn't. With less than seven weeks until the opening ceremony, organizers relocated the entire festival — 25 events, 24 games, over $75 million in prize money — to Paris, France. The Iran war destabilized the region enough that running a global esports event in Riyadh wasn't viable. Valve signed off on the venue change. Everyone packed up.

For CS2, that means August 12–23 in Paris. Stakes unchanged. Field stacked. Six weeks out.

What EWC Actually Is

This isn't a standalone event. EWC runs the Club Championship alongside every tournament — a cross-game standings race where organizations accumulate points across all 24 featured titles, competing for a share of $30 million paid out to the top 24 clubs. CS2 contributes heavily to those totals. That means every series in August carries weight far beyond the $2.1 million prize pool on the table.

Falcons, Vitality, and Liquid enter 2026 as frontrunners based on last year's Club Cup standings. Winning CS2 at EWC doesn't just net you a million dollars — it pushes your org up the club ladder in a way that matters when the big checks get written at the end of the festival.

The CS2 Field

28 teams received direct invites based on VRS rankings. Four more will come through the Paris Open Qualifier (August 7–9, $100K prize pool). The format runs four double-elimination groups of eight teams, then a 16-team playoff bracket. Eleven days of Counter-Strike.

• **Europe:** Falcons, Vitality, NAVI, MOUZ, G2, Spirit, Astralis, GamerLegion, NIP, FaZe, Aurora, 3DMAX, BB Team, FUT Esports, B8, Monte, magic

• **Americas:** FURIA, M80, Legacy, paiN, MIBR, 9z Globant, PARIVISION, Wildcard

• **Asia:** Lynn Vision Gaming, The MongolZ, TYLOO

Four open qualifier slots means somewhere in a 128-team bracket, a dark horse is about to make their name.

Three Years, Two Champions

CS2 is three years into EWC. NaVi won the inaugural edition. The MongolZ took year two, becoming the first Asian squad to claim the title and making every European team that had written them off look naive. Year three in Paris comes with no obvious heir — and a bracket that can go six different directions.

Falcons: Six Weeks, Double Shot

No team enters Paris with more momentum. Falcons swept FURIA 3–0 at IEM Cologne, gave NiKo his first Major title, and broke Counter-Strike's all-time viewership record doing it. karrigan's reunion project — built around NiKo, zonic running the sideline, and one of the deepest rosters in the scene — has now delivered at the absolute highest level. A Major title and an EWC run in the same summer would put them in a conversation very few CS2 lineups ever get to have.

The Club Cup sharpens that further. Falcons need strong performances across their full game portfolio. A CS2 win in Paris doesn't just matter — it compounds.

MongolZ: Defending in the Wrong City

The MongolZ won EWC 2025. They didn't go deep at Cologne. Coming into Paris as defending champions without recent major form is exactly the kind of setup that makes them dangerous — they have something to prove, a title to protect, and a rifler setup that still goes off on any map. Fading The MongolZ in a high-stakes tournament has been wrong for three years running. Don't start now.

The Wildcards

**MOUZ** arrives mid-rebuild. jL joined on loan from NAVI after the Cologne Major roster restrictions lifted, xelex was promoted from NXT, and xertioN stepped up as IGL. Unknown ceiling, real upside. **Aurora** brings SPUNJ's superteam to its first major tournament together — Paris will tell us fast whether that lineup is real or just a headline. **FURIA** comes off a Cologne Grand Final loss; that kind of result can break a team or light it up, and August is when we find out which.

What Comes Through the Qualifier

The open qualifier is Valve Tier 1, which means it counts in every way that matters. 128 teams fight for four EWC spots across August 7–9. Whoever survives will have played multiple best-of-series in two days before stepping into a double-elim group against the world's top 28 invited teams. That's exactly the kind of gauntlet that makes a qualifier run mean something when it happens.

August 12

EWC officially begins July 6 with an opening ceremony at La Seine Musicale. CS2 doesn't start until August 12. Between now and then: qualifier chaos, last-minute roster decisions, and Falcons quietly building toward a second trophy in six weeks.
