IEM Cologne 2026 Stage 3 kicks off with an all-BO3 format for the first time in Major history and opens with NaVi vs Spirit in the very first round.

The IEM Cologne Major 2026's Legends stage has always been where the real tournament begins. But this year, Valve and ESL changed the format in a way that's never happened at a CS Major before: every single Stage 3 match is BO3. No more round-one BO1 coin flips. No more teams surviving on a single-map performance and coasting into a 1-0 record they didn't deserve. Starting June 11 at the Palladium, all 16 remaining teams play out a full Swiss bracket where every result takes at least two maps to earn.

Then the draw went and put NaVi vs Spirit in the opening round anyway.

The Format Change Nobody Should Sleep On

Every prior CS Major — every single one across CSGO and CS2 — used BO1 matches for at least the first three rounds of the Swiss stage. The logic was always practical: sixteen teams, five rounds, venue scheduling, broadcast slots. BO1s kept things moving.

The tradeoff was that they also produced carnage. A favored team could lose a single map to a hot AWP day, drop to 0-1, and spend the rest of the stage clawing uphill — or get eliminated before they ever demonstrated what they were actually capable of. Stage 3 specifically, the Legends stage, is the one that determines your playoff spot. A BO1 exit at 0-3 in the stage that matters most stings harder than anywhere else in the bracket.

Going full BO3 for all five rounds means Stage 3 runs an extra day this year — June 11 through 15 instead of the standard four — but every elimination is earned. Go 0-3 and you went 0-3 in best-of-threes against the field. No asterisks.

The Sixteen Teams

Eight teams received direct invitations to Stage 3 based on Valve's Regional Standings: **Vitality, NaVi, MOUZ, Falcons, The MongolZ, Aurora, FURIA,** and **PARIVISION**.

Eight more earned their spots through the earlier stages: **BetBoom and Monte** advanced from Stage 1, while **Spirit, FUT, G2, 9z, Legacy,** and **B8** came through Stage 2. The top 8 after the Swiss advance to the live playoff arena at LANXESS Arena. The bottom 8 are done.

Prize distribution: $20,000 per team for reaching Stage 3, $45,000 minimum for making playoffs, $500,000 for first place. The stakes are clear.

**NaVi vs Spirit (18:30 CEST)** is the obvious headline. Spirit went 52-10 in round wins across four maps during Stage 2 — donk finished the stage with a 2.27 rating and the bracket looking like a warm-up session. NaVi arrive as ESL Pro League Season 23 champions and IEM Atlanta 2026 winners, two of the biggest trophies on the calendar outside of a Major. Spirit beat them in last year's Major semis. They beat them again at IEM Kraków. Now NaVi gets another shot, in round one, in BO3.

**Vitality vs FUT (13:30 CEST)** pits the defending champions against the tournament's most credible spoiler. FUT went 3-0 through Stage 2 and arrived at Cologne fresh off winning PGL Bucharest 2026. Young roster, hot form, and they drew the world's number one ranked team in the very first match.

**Falcons vs G2 (16:00 CEST)** is structural drama. NiKo captains Falcons under new IGL karrigan, while his cousin huNter- anchors G2's roster on the other side. Full BO3, elimination stakes, same family.

**FURIA vs B8 (16:00 CEST)**: B8 are here, in Stage 3, at a Major — the org grinds all the way to the Legends stage and immediately faces FURIA, a team still searching for consistency after falling short at IEM Kraków. One of these teams ends their run today.

**MOUZ vs Legacy (13:30 CEST)** sends the German org against the Brazilian squad that became back-to-back Asia Champions without anyone predicting it. Legacy earned the stage. MOUZ need to confirm they still belong at the top of it.

**PARIVISION vs 9z, MongolZ vs BetBoom,** and **Aurora vs Monte** round out the day. Monte's Stage 2 run was called extraordinary by analysts heading into the draw. Extraordinary doesn't last forever.

Spirit's head coach Sergey 'hally' Shavaev was hospitalized before Stage 2. The team went out and posted one of the best Swiss stage performances on record regardless. That's either a squad running on adrenaline that hasn't crashed yet, or a team properly built to function without a single point of failure. Stage 3, all-BO3, against NaVi in round one — you'll know which one it is by the end of the day.

Vitality's push for a third consecutive Major title would be unprecedented at the modern format level. They've been called the most dominant CS roster in history. FUT's PGL Bucharest momentum challenges that claim in game one.

The all-BO3 format removes the luck. Sixteen teams, five rounds, every map has to be earned. The playoffs bracket finalizes June 18. Between now and then, Stage 3 is going to tell you exactly who this Major belongs to.
